Gore Vidal
This is the paperback based on the movie. This book was published in January 1979, and included photos from the movie. The movie didn't get released for another year! (Minus Gore's name!)
Eugene Luther Vidal Jr. was born on October 3 1925 at West Point, New York, where his father, Gene Vidal, was an instructor. He was raised at the home of his grandfather, Thomas P. Gore, the populist democrat from Oklahoma, who lived in Washington, D.C. Young Gene adopted the surname of his grandfather as his first name, becoming Gore Vidal. This was about 1940.

Gore wrote his first novel at the age of 19. His very first writing for TV was for the Philco TV Playhouse in 1948. Gore's first acting was playing himself in Frederico Fellini's 1972 film, "Roma", a portrait of the city of Rome.  Gore lived in Italy in the late 60's and early 70's.
